When the UFC announced on Friday that Steve Erceg would be the next challenger for flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 301, many were surprised. Erceg has been a solid performer in the UFC, but he's never been considered a title contender.But Erceg has earned his shot. He's won four straight fights, including a submission win over former title challenger Kai Kara-France. He's also shown a willingness to fight anyone, anytime, anywhere.
Pantoja, meanwhile, is one of the most dominant champions in the UFC. He's won nine straight fights, and he's never lost a round in the UFC.
This is a fascinating matchup between two very different fighters. Pantoja is the more experienced and skilled fighter, but Erceg is the hungrier and more motivated fighter.
